~7 minute performance

~4 minute performance

This piano solo plays with the resonance the piano offers through use of the sustain pedal; register placement; and repetitious gestures. With the performer asked to make calculated listening-based decisions regarding the length of  resonant moments, the length is variable. Performances have lasted from 3 1/2 to 7 minutes (two examples above).

The title is a reference to the use of the sustain pedal but also meant to invoke (a phonetic play on words) the imagery of flower petals. In a culture that stresses the need to be remembered as a focal point of life; it’s the belief and John Keats-like insistence that beauty can only be obtained through impermanence -- the fragility of flower petals.
